The Nigerian musician Ololade Ahmed, better known by his stage name Asake, has disclosed that Wizkid, a colleague, was the one who contacted him about appearing on his song “MMS.”
He clarified that, although P. Prime, the producer, had played the song for Wizkid, he had another person in mind and demanded to be featured in it.
This was revealed by Asake in a recent Instagram Q&A session with followers.
“I didn’t know I was going to put Wizkid on that song to be honest. I had someone else in mind for that song, but I think P.prime played the song to wiz, and wiz said “I f*ck with this song, I want to jump on it’,” he said.
Friday was the debut of “MMS,” the third studio album by Asake, titled “Lungu Boy.”
With 870,000 plays, the song shattered the record for the most first-day streams on Spotify Nigeria.
“IDK,” a Wizkid song starring Zlatan Ibile, previously held the record with 626,000 streams.
In the meantime, Asake’s “Lungu Boy” has surpassed the record for the most Spotify first-day streams of an African album.
On its debut day, the album received 9.42 million plays on the global Spotify Chart.
